BARBARA C. THOMPSON is an accomplished, full-spectrum music educator. As soon as she was able to play instruments, Barbara taught lessons as an assistant in her high school music program and had ten private students of her own. She went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Music from Ithaca College (Ithaca, N.Y.) and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from S.U.N.Y. During her twenty-eight years in public schools (upstate New York and central Florida), Barbara has worked at all levels of education from conducting festival choruses and marching bands down to designing curriculum for kindergartens.
Her specialty has been her ability to remove the roadblocks for reading music. She understands the small steps in learning. She believes she can anticipate what each student needs next and, above all, can explain everything clearly. Barbara has received the Teacher of the Year Award in her elementary school as well as being named in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. She has been chosen for membership in the Manhattan Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the honorary teaching society. Over the years, Barbara has continued to seek knowledge from the top music educators in the United States by annually attending rigorous state music conferences. Not only have these kept her teaching on the front lines of education today, but they contributed to her publishing three articles for a music education journal.
