Erika Lloyd is a singer, pianist, and composer living in Brooklyn. She received her Bachelors of Voice Performance, Early Music, from Indiana University’s School of Music in 2005. In addition to being a featured soloist in Pro Arte, she studied harpsichord under Elizabeth Wright for four years. As part of the Early Music Institute she developed a love for Renaissance and Baroque repertoire and performed in many chamber ensembles with period instrumentalists. She also took a semester in Vienna, Austria, where she performed at The Palais Corbelli and studied with the Coloratura Donna Robin, of the StadtsOper, Vienna.
Now, she is most widely known as the lead singer and songwriter for the indie rock band, Little Grey Girlfriend. Miss Lloyd loves applying her classical training to her rock, folk, and pop performing. A great example of her work in cross-genre performance and composition is her new working relationship with the Grammy Award-winning choral group Chanticleer! This world-renowned ensemble is performing a choral arrangement of Erika’s song, “Cells Planets” (from Little Grey Girlfriend’s second album of the same name) on its 2010-2011 Out of This World Concert Tour, and has released their version of her song on their latest album. She is also the Junior Choir Director, grades 4-8, at Blessed Sacrament School in the Bronx, where she is a cantor. You can hear her every Sunday as the soprano section leader and soloist of the Union Church of Bay Ridge. She has been performing with the Renaissance quartet with lute, The Good Pennyworths, and acclaimed NYC ensemble, Choral Chameleon for four years.
She started studying piano at age 6 and enjoyed composing music from the very start. She has years of experience in teaching both piano and voice, along with extensive training in music pedagogy from Indiana University. She loves working with children and has a background in early childhood development through her additional work as a day-care teacher. She incorporates all types of music into her teaching and builds each personal lesson plan with the student’s musical tastes and interests in mind. To her, an ideal child’s relationship to new music is thoroughly enjoying playing it, while learning important new skills in reading and performing it, all at the same time!
